Privacy in plain English
Last updated 20 September 2026
This is the short version. The full privacy policy says the same things with more detail.
What we keep
- Your email address, so you can sign in.
- Whether you are 15 to 17, or 18 and over. We never ask for your birthday.
- The budget you set up: what comes in, what goes out, your goals.
- The money you record: things you type in, or rows from a file you download from your own bank and bring here.
What we do not do
- We do not connect to your bank. We never ask for your bank password.
- We do not sell your information. Not to anyone, not ever.
- We do not show you ads.
- We do not let other companies watch what you do here.
Who can see it
Only you. You sign in with a code sent to your email, and the database is set up so your account can only read your own rows. The person who runs Headroom can reach the system itself, which is how it gets fixed when it breaks.
It is all stored on computers in Sydney. It does not leave Australia.
When you import a bank file
The file is read on your own phone or laptop. The file itself never reaches us. Only the date, the amount and the shop name are sent, and we cut out things like card numbers, account numbers and phone numbers first, because those often belong to other people.
Getting it back, or getting rid of it
- A copy of everything: go to Me, then Export your data. You get spreadsheet files you can open anywhere.
- Delete it all: go to Me, then Delete your account. It goes straight away, and it is gone from our backups within a month.
Both ask us to email you a code first. That way, if someone picks up your unlocked phone, they still cannot take your information or wipe your account.
One more thing
Headroom shows you your own numbers and explains how budgeting works. It does not tell you which bank account, card or investment to pick. Nobody here is your financial adviser.
If you want to ask something
Write to us and we will answer. If you would rather a parent, carer or teacher asked on your behalf, that is fine too.
